Clinical care of the patient with suspected renal disease often requires assessing
renal function. Two of the most commonly used tests evaluate the serum creatinine
level and endogenous creatinine clearance. These indirect measures of renal filtration
are imperfect, however, and do not supply information that would differentiate the
right kidney from the left [

]. Dynamic imaging of the kidney following administration of a contrast agent determines
renal function more directly. Renal scintigraphy and CT have been used for that purpose
with some success [

]. More recently, dynamic MR imaging has emerged as the imaging modality of choice
because it may provide a complete, anatomic, physiologic, kidney-specific evaluation.
